Poland is well-known for its giant-sized stamps. The definitives however are issued mainly in one of the two standard-sizes:
The smaller size is used almost exclusively for the definitives. Until 1980 these were mostly printed in recess in either the WIFAG or GOEBEL-1 reel-fed press. Coil-stamps - although the PWPW could have printed them on the WIFAG-press - were ordered in Leipzig, the VEB Wertpapierdruckerei had to print all the COMECON-countries' coil-stamps in photogravure. |
In the PWPW in 1980 the printing of the small-sized definitives in photogravure started. The recently introduced GOEBEL-3 [1x recess + 2x photogravure] printed the following definitives sets:
