Czeslaw Slania's Engraved Banknotes
for Argentina

The person portrayed is the "Father of the Argentine Constitution".  Born 24th August 1810.  Was forced to leave Argentina at the age of 28 because of his opposition to the tyrant Juan Manuel Rosas.  Continued to attack Rosas in his writings from Uruguay and Chile.  He studied law and received the degree Doctor of Laws.  When Rosas was finally overthrown in 1852, the Argentines reorganized the republic, writing a constitution that was guided by his own writings.  He later served as envoy to several European governments, and died in Paris on 19th June, 1884.

NOTE:  The image on the front side of the this banknote exists also as bonds.

The original banknote of 5000 Pesos Argentinos (identical with the above, but without boxed overprint) was issued in 1984, and is listed as Pick # 318.

Please note that Slania only engraved the front side.  The reverse side is shown in thumbnail-format.

Many thanks to Roy Lingen (Canada) for all help and research.
