Re-uses of Early Engravings
Sweden
In an enlarged kaleidoscopic presentation, Sweden Post has combined four
engraved stamps to show the design variety of the past century. The issue is to
mark the 150th anniversary of the Stamps of Sweden Post in 2005. All of the
original stamps were engraved, as have been a majority of the Swedish stamps
over that period.

The upper left stamp show part of the Slania engraving of
"Woman with Veil" from a painting by Alexander Roslin, which was
issued in 1972, for the Gustavian Art commemoration. Each of the stamps
illustrated are printed in a single colour, except for the
"Lady" which has a slight 'blush' of colour in the face, similar
to the original issue. |

The gold ring surrounding the pie-shaped samples of the stamp designs
contains credit for each of the engravers, including Slania, the year of issue
and the event being marked. All stamps are denominated "Brev Inrikes"
for the standard domestic letter rate. These four designs were printed by
intaglio, which was necessary because all of the images are enlarged from the
originals.

Also Monaco has re-used Slania-designs in stamp issues released after his
