Sweden 2004
| On 2nd October 2004 the Swedish Post Office has
issued a series of various stamps and philatelic material to celebrate 50
years of Rock-n-Roll Music. In this series is included one stamp featuring
Elvis Presley, engraved by Czeslaw Slania.

Other than Elvis, the stamp set also includes Swedish Rock Musicians Jerry Williams, Pugh Rogefeldt, Ulf Lundell, Tomas Ledin, Eva Dahlgren, Louise Hoffsten, Sahara Hotnights.

Further, the Swedish Post Office has issued a Maximum Card, featuring the Elvis-stamp, a Hagstrom Viking guitar, as well as the titles of Elvis' songs. Finally is issued a Elvis Collector Sheet, picturing a young Elvis Presley, with a complete mint set of the 50 years of Rock Music stamps mounted in the lower right corner. The poster measures approximately 8¼ * 11½ inches, and is perfect for framing.
The stamps on the souvenir sheet are printed in dark blue, possibly to match
his "Blue Suede Shoes". The stamp was jointly engaved by Slania
and Piotr Naszarkowski. Although it is stated in the Bulletin No. 5/2004
from Sweden Post that both engravers worked on the stamp, in the images printed
in the announcement only the name of "Cz.Slania sc 2004"
appears. The stamp image top right has no engraver's name on
it.

Other than these Elvis-issues there exists another Elvis-item. A previous memorial label of Elvis Presley was created by Slania some time after his death in 1977, and shows a youthful Elvis with his data 1935-1977 engraved at the top. This label is extremely scarce, and is only occasionally found for sale. It is sometimes seen offered reproduced on commemorative postcards. This copy is printed on un-gummed paper. Such private issues are usually printed and perforated by Slania himself. The label belongs to the webmaster and is not for sale. |
